TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Tallahassee has their own professional basketball team and they have tryouts this Saturday.
The Tallahassee Southern Kings are heading to the Big Bend area and looking for their next star players.
The Southern Kings will be one of more than 40 teams to make it into the “basketball league” next spring, and they want the best players in this region.
“The Big Bend area has a lot of talent and I think it’s not only a great opportunity for me, it’s a great opportunity for the players, it’s a great opportunity for Tallahassee, period,” he said. said Andrew Moten, head coach of the Southern Kings.
Coach Moten is from Gadsden County and a former UF basketball player.
“Because I’m uncompromising, I like to take it out on it. I want the guy who’s going to do stuff that doesn’t show up in the stats like dive for loose balls, get down and fight. You know how to tie it, get the jump ball, that sort of thing, ”Moten said.
Team Market Owner Damion Jones said this could be a great opportunity for anyone with the right skills.
“A league like this is a great opportunity for a lot of the talent that is here in the Big Bend area. Unfortunately you know growing up here we didn’t have that opportunity so we said why not, ”Jones said.
“We bring scouts into our league, we have agents in our league. This year alone, five players were invited to the NBA Summer League. One player has been chosen for the Harlem Globetrotters. We have a coach who has gone overseas and several players have gone overseas, ”said Victoria Jones, another market owner of the team.
Trials will take place this Saturday, October 16 from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Northside Community Center.
