Sweetgreen selects basketball superstar Devin Booker as ambassador

Sweetgreen has selected Phoenix Suns shooting guard Devin Booker as its latest youth ambassador, the company announced Monday.

The basketball star joins tennis star Naomi Osaka in changing the way “brands and athletes speak to future generations about the importance of what they eat,” according to a statement from the Los Angeles-based brand.

“We brought about powerful change in the food industry with Naomi last year and together we thought about who else to take on this journey. We wanted an athlete who spoke about the importance of healthy living, and Devin was a natural fit,” brand manager Nathaniel Ru said in a statement.

For the launch, Sweetgreen launched “Create Your Own”, a new campaign that highlights the most ordered item on the menu: the personalized bowl. More than 65% of digital orders are personalized with at least one modification, according to the company.

For the national campaign, Sweetgreen partnered with TikTok creator @Owen.han to direct the films.

“As an athlete, I’m always mindful of what I’m putting into my body,” Booker said in a statement. “I know which ingredients make me feel better, so when I order my favorite bowl from Sweetgreen, I’m confident that every ingredient is going to help fuel my day, on and off the field.”

“I started working with Sweetgreen because I was in touch with their mission and was already a regular customer,” Osaka said. “Partnering with a brand that creates positive change in the world is really important to me. Tapping Devin and integrating it into the mix makes it even better.

Osaka and Booker worked with Sweetgreen’s culinary team to perfect their custom orders, which will be featured from May 2 through June 5. Their bowls will be available for purchase at all Sweetgreen stores and on the brand’s website, as well as exclusively on the Sweetgreen app for delivery and pickup.

Sweetgreen has over 150 locations nationwide.
