No Draymond Green, LeBron James is not the ‘smartest basketball player ever’

Draymond Green after being asked if the mental challenge of facing the Celtics compares to facing james lebron in the NBA Finals: “It doesn’t compare. He is arguably the smartest guy to ever step foot on a basketball court. To say it compares to that is disrespectful to LeBron and it’s a lie to you.

Chris Broussard: “He said ‘probably’ twice, so I’ll give him that because I don’t think LeBron is the smartest player to ever play the game. I think he’s ‘the one” of them but I don’t think he’s “THE” smartest. He’s obviously a very smart guy on and off the pitch, and he has a photographic memory that’s been well documented, but I can’t give him the title of “smartest” because I don’t think dominating the ball is the smartest way to play basketball I think the smartest way to play basketball is to do the five guys involved. Basically, the five players on the court with you are about maximizing their abilities. The “Showtime” Lakers were so great because Kareem could be at the highest level Kareem could play at, Magic could play at the highest level he could play and James Worthy could be at highest level at which they could play. In Miami, LeBron played at the highest level he could play, but Dwyane Wade had to step back and be about 80% of the player he could be. Chris Bosh became an actor, and it was the same in Cleveland with Kevin Love. He’s obviously a ‘smart’ player, but I couldn’t say the ‘smartest player we’ve ever seen’. One of the ways his intelligence shows is in his marketing and his ability to make everything he does feel like the first time or the “biggest” time. He has a school in Akron… he wasn’t the first to do it and certainly not the only one. Jalen Rose has a school, David Robinson had a school in San Antoinio long before Lebron was in the league. He has a machine behind him, they have the broadcasters there, but it feels like the ‘first’ time.”

Rob Parker: “If he’s so smart, how come he lost so many times in the final? I’m just saying…I get it, Draymond is friends with LeBron and he looks up to him but that’s still over the top. It always seems like a stretch when it comes to LeBron like he did nothing wrong and he won it all…like I don’t think he’s had that career. He had a great career but he didn’t do everything right and everything didn’t work out. Draymond has an affinity for LeBron and no matter what he says every time LeBron pops up, it’s the biggest compliment you can ever give someone… Even with ‘player mobility’ happened long before LeBron with Grant Hill, Tracy McGrady and Tim Duncan when they nearly went to Orlando together. To listen Chris Brossard and Rob Parker discuss Draymond Green’s recent remarks which proclaimed james lebron as “arguably the smartest guy to ever set foot on a basketball court”, as Rob and Chris share the same sentiment that they disagree with that compliment being considered accurate.
