The NBA preseason kicked off this week and former Maryland men’s basketball star Aaron Wiggins got off to a good start in his preseason debut as a rookie.
Wiggins was drafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder last June in the second round with the 55th pick overall. On Tuesday night, Wiggins had 12 points on shots 4-5 from the field and 3-3 from long distance.
In July, Wiggins signed a two-way contract with the Thunder. During the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas in August, Wiggins had a terrific week. In five games, the 22-year-old has averaged 11.2 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game on 43% shots on the field.
Wiggins decided to forgo his senior season in Maryland and compete in the NBA Draft last spring. He will now try to continue to impress the Thunder organization and gain some playing time for a young team in Oklahoma City.
