Richardson’s Cason Wallace

What he did: Wallace averaged 22.3 points, 6.7 assists and 7.0 rebounds as Richardson went 3-0 this week. Wallace scored 33 points and added five steals despite three first-half fouls in an 84-78 win over a Lake Highlands side 29-4 – the No. 4 ranked team in the regional Class 6A poll from the Dallas Morning News – on Friday. He had 17 points and 10 assists in an 83-52 victory over Richardson Berkner on Monday, followed by a performance of 17 points and 11 rebounds in a 93-38 win over Irving MacArthur on Tuesday.

Who is he: A 6-foot-4 senior guard. Wallace signed with Kentucky in November. He chose the Wildcats over Tennessee, UT-San Antonio and Texas. He helped Richardson qualify for the Class 6A State Semifinals in 2021.

Statistics : Wallace is averaging 19.2 points, 7.6 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game this season. He helped Richardson – the highest-ranked team in The News regional poll and TABC 6A state ranking – to an overall record of 29-1, 13-0 in the 7-6A district. The win over Lake Highlands clinched the 7-6A title for Richardson. Richardson’s only loss was an 82-68 decision against North Little Rock (Ark.) on Dec. 11.

He said it : “The key to the Lake Highlands game was moving around without the ball because they were double-teaming me. I was able to play well in the second half with three fouls thanks to my teammates. All of them told me at half-time that they supported me. … The highlight of the week for me was the MacArthur game. It was seniors night, and this group was special to be a part of. … This year I worked on improving my shooting range and making more floats. I have the NBA lineup now.

The coach said it: “What makes Cason great is that he was never satisfied. He was not satisfied when he signed with Kentucky and he never backs down. … He really worked on his overall defense. He can keep any position, from 1 to 5, and I don’t see many players who can do that. Richardson’s coach Kevin Lawson said.

Did you know? Wallace has been playing basketball since he was five years old, encouraged by his older brother Keaton who played at UT-San Antonio and is currently a member of the Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario, an NBA G-League team for the Los Angeles Clippers. Cason said he felt really good at basketball when he was in eighth grade… Wallace’s favorite class in school is pre-calculus because he’s good with numbers. … Wallace plans to major in communications. When his playing days are over, he hopes to host his own podcast, talk about any sport… Wallace’s favorite food is chicken and shrimp alfredo with bread sticks and lemonade… Favorite athlete from Wallace is Los Angeles Lakers goaltender LeBron James.
