Indiana Athletics on Friday announced plans to renovate the center for the women’s basketball team in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The renovation will include updates to the locker room, team lounge, training room and coaches’ meeting room, according to a statement from IU.
The project should be completed before the 2022-2023 season. It is intended to help with recruiting efforts, as well as maintaining facilities up to the standards of a top-25 basketball program.
The facility renovations are made possible through the Women’s Excellence Program, which was created to support the advancement of Indiana’s 13 women’s varsity athletic programs.
“This is an exciting time for our program with the commitment to renovate our team center on game day,” head coach Teri Moren said in the statement. “I want to thank Sporting Director Scott Dolson and the Women’s Excellence Initiative for giving us a space to help our players prepare for games and compete at the highest level.”
The locker room will be renamed in honor of Courtney Cox Cole, a two-sport athlete from Indiana from 1990-1993, after a generous donation from her family. Naming opportunities remain available for the team center, team lounge, coaches meeting room and individual lockers.
