Syracuse, NY ― Former Syracuse basketball player Marek Dolezaj has a new basketball skill.
Dolezaj used to play with a professional team in the Ukrainian basketball Superleague, but he recently signed a new contract with a team in Greece.
Greek club Iraklis Thessaloniki announced they signed the former Syracuse player earlier on Thursday.
Dolezaj had joined Ternopil-Tneu in the Ukrainian Superleague last summer. The transfer to Iraklis Thessaloniki from the Greek Basketball League represents a step up in the competition.
“I know the Greek league is very strong,” Dolezaj said in an article on team website. “Two of his teams, after all, play in the Euroleague. I’m very happy to have the opportunity to show what I can do. I’m in good shape because I’ve already played in Ukraine.’ ‘
A native of Bratislava, Slovakia, Dolezaj played at Syracuse from 2017-2021. He averaged 9.8 points and 5.1 rebounds last season as the Orange advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. For his career, Dolezaj totaled 960 points and 649 rebounds.
