- Juwan Howard hits out at Badgers coach for calling timeouts in final seconds of game
- Howard’s punch sparks on-field brawl with players from both teams involved
- The former NBA player had a similar event last season in the Big Ten
Former NBA player Juwan Howard is known for his temper, and that was pretty much on the line after the Michigan Wolverines vs. Wisconsin Badgers game.
The 49-year-old punched Wisconsin assistant Joe Krabbenhoft in the post-game handshake line between the two teams and the act resulted in a massive brawl involving Wolverines and Badgers players.
It all started when Howard stopped Wisconsin coach Greg Gard and the two ended up exchanging words.
The scene saw players gather around the two coaches. Things took another turn when the former NBA player put his finger on Gard’s face and grabbed the Badgers coach’s jersey.
Krabbenhoft tried to interfere but ended up getting the punch from Howard.
Mayhem ensued with both teams ending up pushing and shoving.

Michigan forwards Moussa Diabate and Terrance Williams appeared to be throwing punches, while Wisconsin guard Jahcobi Neath also appeared to be doing the same.
Howard would have hurt Wisconsin for calling two timeouts in the final two minutes.
But it looks like Howard came up against the final Badgers caller with 15 seconds left in the game and the opposing team well ahead by 15 points.
The final score was 77-63 in favor of the Badgers.
“I didn’t like the timeout they called, and I’m totally honest with you,” Howard said. “I thought it wasn’t necessary at that time, especially with a big lead… I thought it wasn’t fair to our guys. And that’s what happened.”
Regardless, the Big Ten announced that they would review the matter and take appropriate disciplinary action.
“The Big Ten Conference is aware of a physical altercation involving Michigan head coach Juwan Howard at the end of the Michigan Wolverines and Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball game. The conference is in contact with the two member institutions and is currently evaluating the incident. The conference will provide further information and will take prompt and appropriate disciplinary action when it completes its review,” the statement read.
It wasn’t the first time Howard had been involved in a fight in the Big Ten.
Last year, Howard had to be restrained when he tried to go after former Maryland Terrapins head coach Mark Turgeon.
He would ultimately be ejected from the quarter-final match of the tournament for his actions.
