The USSA national basketball team are set to face teams from various countries in the African college basketball tournament, which is scheduled to take place in November.
Four Walter Sisulu University players, namely Giovanni Jafta, Olebogeng Matabane, Keatlegile Ramorwesi and Sandisiwe Mbiza, were selected during the USSA Basketball 2021 Championships, held in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) last weekend.
All 16 teams from across the country competed in the USSA games.
The WSU basketball team have played and won four games in the men’s and women’s categories.
The WSU was ranked ninth in the tournament, which means it automatically qualifies for the USSA matches in 2022.
WSU coach Sinoma Nkohla said the technical team were delighted to have four players selected for the national team.
“We were fortunate to have two men and two women selected for the national team and in addition a player who was selected for the All Star team, which consists of the best players in the tournament,” said Nkohla.
The coach, who began his coaching career in 2016, said he was impressed with the team’s accomplishments during the tournament and wished the four players of the National Basketball Team the best. USSA.
Nkohla said this achievement will motivate other players to work harder.
He also thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the players and the entire WSU basketball team.
