BRooklyn Nets superstar James harden is a new investor in luxury retailer Saks. Harden has purchased a minority stake and will become an independent member of the Saks board of directors, where he will advise on growth “Consumer brands with high potential” and help expand its e-commerce platform, a press release said.
James Edwards Harden, Jr. was born on August 26, 1989 in Los Angeles, California as the third child of Monja Willis and James Harden Sr. James attended Artesia High School in Lakewood, California. He then joined Arizona State and played for them.
He was a star quarterback at Locke High School in South LA and later at the University of Kansas. The third seed of the National Basketball Association (NBA) began his professional career with the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2009, before being signed by the Rockets in 2012. President of Saks Fifth Avenue Richard Boulanger revealed to media that the 31-year-old had approached him to invest in Saks after the announcement in March that the luxury retailer was separating stores from e-commerce. “I told him we don’t need investors”, said Boulanger. But the two men started a series of conversations, and “I was impressed by his love of fashion, so I invited him to become an investor on one condition, that he join the board of directors” said Boulanger.
The Saks e-commerce site recently split from the Saks Fifth Avenue retail chain as a separately managed business.
Harden is one of the hottest players in the NBA and has garnered followers across generations. He is well positioned to leverage his star power to generate new business at Saks and help launch clothing brands.
This is not James Harden’s first foray into business. He has experience in consumer, sports and entertainment businesses, including as a minority owner of Major League Soccerâs Houston Dynamo and National Women’s Soccer Leagueâs Houston Dash, as well as stakes in various brands. , including Therabody, BodyArmor, Art of Sport, Stance and Pura, where he is Creative Director. Harden is also the founder of Thirteen, a fine dining restaurant based in Houston.
